Sceptics will no doubt point out that when 33 000 readers of an Italian motorcycle magazine vote for a Bike of the Year the deck is likely to be stacked in favour of Italian machinery. Still, as in Grand Prix and Superbike racing, it's very important that you beat your team-mate in a fair fight, and Aprilia trounced all the other prestigious Italian manufacturers rather convincingly in claiming Motociclismo Magazine's Overall Bike of the Year title, as well as their Sport Bike of the Year plaudits, with the awesome RSV4 R.

Five times South African motorcycle champion Sheridan Morais finally confirmed his ride in this weekend's fifth round of the World Superbike championship at Kyalami on Monday, just four days before Friday's first practice. Morais has ridden in previous events for Kawasaki and Honda, but this year's factory Aprilia RSV4 ride promises to give him his best chance of a top ten or even top five finish so far.

After Briton Leon Haslam (Suzuki GSX R1000) and Spaniard Carlos Checa (Ducati 1098R) took the wins in the season opener at Phillip Island in Australia four weeks ago, it was the turn of the little Italian maestro from Rome, Max Biaggi, in round two at Portimao in Portugal on Sunday.
